Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q

Where do you primarily train your clients?

A

I primarily train my clients out of FitSF
Address- 23a South Railroad Ave, San Mateo CA 94401

Q

Do I have to pay a  gym membership fee to train at FitSF?

A

No. The only fee you have to pay is my training fee.

Q

How long are the training sessions?

A

All  training sessions are 55 minutes.

Q

What do I need to  wear and bring for my workout?

A

Bring a comfortable shirt, and either sweats or shorts, and some form of cross training  shoe. Also bring a bottle of water and towel.

Q

Can I workout at FitSF on my own?

A

FitSF is a Personal Training only gym. You may only workout at FitSF when you have a training appointment with me. You can come 15-20 minutes before your session to stretch and warmup properly.

Q

What if I cancel a session?

A

As long as you give me 24 hour notice of cancellation you will not be charged for that session. Please be aware that  this is a policy I strictly enforce.

Q

What forms of payments do you accept?

A

I accept all major credit cards, cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, or Paypal.

Q

When are payments for training due? Are there payment plans?

A

Whatever package you agree to purchase must be paid in full prior to your first session. There are no payment plans.

Q

Personal Training is expensive. Do you have any more  cost effective packages?

A

I do provide Buddy Training at FitSF. You can team up with one other person (preferably at the same fitness level) and train together. This makes training more cost effective and it can be fun training with someone you know. It can be a great way to hold each other accountable. By special request I can setup  small group training or a bootcamp off site. (3 or more people)  This is all subject to my availability.

Q

What if I want a refund of remaining sessions?

A

All sales are FINAL There are no refunds. If for some reason you feel we are not a good fit or you can not use the remaining sessions; you can transfer your sessions to someone else to use.

Q

Can you come to my home or office and  train me there?

A

Yes I can train you at your home or office. It is by special arrangement based on my schedule and availability. I do require you to purchase the equipment needed for me to train you at your home or office. Also be aware that there is added $70/session to my normal rates for travel and time.

Q

If I lift weights will I become a huge muscle bound person?

A

Both men and women persist in believing this. Women, as a general rule, don’t have enough testosterone to develop large, bulky muscles. Men may be able to, but the training and dedication required to build that type of physique is beyond all but the most dedicated bodybuilders. For the majority of people, bodybuilding helps tone muscle and burns fat, not turn you into the Hulk.

Q

If working out three times a week is good. Working out six times a week is better?

A

Not necessarily. A large number of injuries that people experience working out come from trying to do too much, too soon. You have to start and build slowly, always paying attention to what your body is telling you. If you’re on a weight lifting program, you can’t continuously add more weight and expect to keep advancing. Weight training goes in cycles and every few months you may need to take a 7-10 day break, or cut back your level of training intensity in order to progress.

Q

No pain…no gain?

A

Exercising until you’re in pain is not the way to get in shape. But be careful not to confuse muscle soreness with muscle injury. Your muscles will get sore after working out, especially when you’re first starting a fitness program. Some soreness is a good thing; because it is an indication your muscles are repairing themselves and growing. But if you’re in physical pain, stop immediately. Your goal is to get fit, not end up in the hospital.

Q

If I stop lifting weights will my muscle will turn to fat?

A

Muscle doesn’t turn into fat any more than a hand can turn into a foot. When you stop exercising your muscle tissues shrink (also known as atrophy). Keep eating the same amount of calories as when you were working out, and you fat cells will grow because you’re not burning the excess calories off. Shrinking muscle and growing fat cells give the illusion that your muscle is turning into fat.

Q

Can you spot reduce specific body parts?

A

You cannot lose fat from one specific body part just by exercising that area. There are numerous exercise equipment companies with late night infomercials who claim you can, but they’re lying to you. Listen carefully. At the end of the infomercial you will always hear, ‘You too can achieve these AMAZING results! (Provided you participate in a regular diet and exercise program).’

Q

I am exercising so I can eat anything I want?

A

Not at all! This is especially important to understand if you are one of those people trying to gain weight. (Yes, those people exist.) Pigging out on fattening, sugar loaded foods WILL help you put on weight…but the majority of it will be artery clogging fat. When you’re exercising it is even more important to eat healthy, so your muscles will have the proper nutrients to grow. If you don’t eat properly, your workouts will make you sore, but won’t help build muscle.

Q

I do not need to exercise. I just need to follow the latest diet or take a diet pill?

A

There is no magic potion to make you fit. That’s a difficult message to understand if you read most fitness magazines. You’re constantly bombarded with ads promising “rock hard abs in 4 weeks” or that you can “drop 10 pounds in 10 days – without dieting or exercise!” Here’s a little secret. If you want to get in shape, the ONLY way to do it is by eating properly and exercising regularly.

by ALLISON AUBREY We’ve reported a lot this year about how there’s a major rethinking of fat happening in the U.S. Turns out, eating foods with fat — everything from avocados and nuts to dairy fat — doesn’t make us fat.
